URBAN COOLING REIMAGINED

With rising temperatures, cities worldwide face the challenge of cooling urban spaces and ensuring the well-being of their inhabitants. The solution must be sustainable and functional, while not compromising on aesthetic appeal. Against this backdrop, students from the Higher Technical School for Technology and Design Zug (HFTG) developed an innovative air conditioning system that made waves at the Milano Design Week 2024. Roger Wiedemeier played a key role in this project. With his extensive expertise and advisory role, he significantly supported the students in the technical and conceptual implementation of the project.

Roger Wiedemeier, Head of Production Management at Aroma and, since September 2023, also a lecturer at HFTG Zug, played a central role in bringing this project to life. In his role at Aroma, Roger has extensive experience in managing complex projects, particularly in project execution and planning. He shared this expertise not only in his role as a lecturer but also directly in practice with the students. As a result, the “air conditioning” project was successfully implemented at the House of Switzerland in Milan.

As part of the Milano Design Week, ten students from HFTG had the opportunity to showcase their creative and sustainable air conditioning system at the House of Switzerland. Invited by Pro Helvetia and Presence Switzerland, the students qualified through a rigorous selection process. Under the project title “Taking Joy in Responsible Design,” the HFTG students impressed the international jury.

The air conditioning system, developed with Roger’s advisory support, is more than just a technical experiment. It shows how urban design can respond to the challenges of climate change by combining functionality, sustainability, and aesthetics. The project emphasizes the importance of innovation in the design of urban spaces and offers a glimpse of how cities can respond to rising temperatures.

The project demonstrates how, at Aroma, knowledge and experience are shared not only within the team but also through collaboration with partners and emerging talents to develop innovative solutions to the challenges of our time. It’s not just about executing projects, but about spreading knowledge and setting new standards together—an essential part of Aroma’s philosophy.
