New festival centre as a stage for audiences, stars, and sponsors
Event architecture in sustainable timber construction with a signature look, adaptable spatial layout, and panoramic terraces
In autumn 2024, the Zurich Film Festival (ZFF) celebrated its 20th anniversary and marked the occasion with an impressive new festival centre on Sechseläutenplatz. In collaboration with VierD, Aroma redesigned the heart of the festival – a milestone that brings the audience closer to the stars while embracing sustainable materials.
The new festival centre is more than just a venue; it embodies the soul and identity of the ZFF. Featuring a distinctive signature look and a strong visual presence across 1,275 square metres, the centre was built using a modular wooden construction. This approach allows for a variety of zones and terraces with views of the Green Carpet, the Opera House, and the lake. The natural warmth and texture of the wood create an inviting atmosphere and turn the space into a vibrant meeting point with a unique sense of place.
Sustainability is at the core of the new festival centre. Aroma and VierD, specialists in temporary timber constructions, placed great emphasis on the use of sustainable materials and long-term usability during planning and implementation. By sourcing regional materials, environmental impact is minimised while supporting the local economy. The centre is also designed to be fully accessible, ensuring an inclusive experience for all visitors.
